Key Features of the Selkirk Neo Composite Pickleball Paddle
Grip
It might surprise you, but the grip your paddle comes with is just as important as its body, material and appearance. Comfort and versatility are two of the benefits of a good grip.
With its 4.125-inch circumference, the SLK ThinGrip provides the perfect grip size. You need to have enough space between your hand and the handle so that you don’t get a loose shot from poor grip fitting. Your palm will fit perfectly no matter how sweaty your palms may be.
Design and Build
The sweet spot is what I consider the most important thing about a pickleball paddle. The sweet spot is basically the area where the paddle swing produces the most power. Some paddles come with honeycomb cores, which distribute the impact weight across the entire surface. This makes it easier for you to hit shots but it also takes away shot finesse, control, and power.
The SELKIRK NEO COMPOSITE PICKLEBALL PADDLE is the perfect paddle for you. It has both the right balance and enough power. This allows you to play your game more easily and allows you to keep the same paddle even as you improve your skills.
It is obvious from the name, but the core of the Selkirk Neo are made from a composite polymer. The layered core ensures that you have great balance at all angles. The core is made of composite polymer material, which distributes paddle impacts evenly across every layer.
The classic paddle shape is used for the paddle body. For players who prefer to play a variety of shots, this wider-bodied design is better. This also serves as a learning curve to help newer players find their preferred playing style.
Pros and Cons
Anybody who has played pickleball for any length of time can confirm this: There is no perfect paddle. Because there are so many options on the market, this is especially true. Each paddle has its pros, regardless of price. Before you settle on a paddle, it is important to understand these before making a purchase. Let’s take a look at the Selkirk Neo’s pros and cons.
Pros
- Selkirk ThinGrip paddle handles provide an unusually comfortable level of comfort for your game. After a few games, the paddle felt natural and I didn’t have to adjust my grip every time.
- Selkirk Neo’s genuinely sweet spot was the first thing I noticed. I was never off-balance even in my first game. This is an amazing aspect of a paddle that gives you so much power. The ball seemed to glide smoothly off the surface, regardless of how poorly I timed my shots. Bravo!
- The paddle is a lightweight, but comfortable 7.8 Ounces. This lightweight paddle adds versatility to your game and provides some much-needed finesse for beginners.
- If you are looking to showcase your skills, beautiful surface design is a must. Bold Neon Blue Vinyl Graphics make a great addition.
Cons
- There are probably better looking paddles with elongated heads than this one. The shape may be advantageous depending on where you’re at in your pickleball journey.
Verdict
For those just starting out in pickleball, the Selkirk Neo Composite Pickleball Paddle is a great choice at a reasonable price. You might have different preferences depending on your playing style if you are further along. This paddle is still great and highly recommended.
